Well, i guess the main news is that we’ve started album four. Started. We’ve begun to play the new stuff together, and we’ll continue to do that over the summer and beyond. It is, as ever, exciting and scary and weird and everything else, but right at the start of this process we (well definitely “I”) have thought about the kind of songs we’d like to write, release, and play…. all that we can say is that we’re going to work very hard on it, and try to be as creative, innovative and interesting as possible and, as much as possible, just let the album form itself.

Anyway, there’s tons of life in Little Sparks yet and we’ll be visiting Austria for the first time this month, playing in the Chelsea club, Vienna. Cannot wait to get there. (We’ll probably make a few Midge Ure “Ooohhhh Viennnaaaaa” jokes while there, to ever-diminishing laughs.) After that there’s a packed summer of gigs in France, Spain and elsewhere, as well as festival appearances in Ireland – most notably supporting Bruce Springsteen in Kilkenny in July. What an honour!

We’ve also announced that we’ll be playing a big Dublin headline show, in the fantastic Vicar Street, in November. It’s a first for us to put a show on sale 6 months in advance, but we wanted to make sure it was special, so we didn’t want to rush into it!

It started in incredible fashion with the Meteor Choice Music Prize awarding “Little Sparks” album of the year. We couldn’t believe it, and we were bowled over by the generosity and kind words of everyone on the night and since. thank you!

After no/some sleep, early the next morning we arrived to a chilly New York to play the renowned Mercury Lounge in Tribeca. The audience were amazing and we’d a great, late night, catching up with old friends and making lots of new ones! We also got a chance to celebrate…

A few connecting flights later, the shorts and blindingly white Irish legs of delorentos introduced themselves to the Texan sunshine. We spent an amazing week at the SXSW festival. As well as playing shows and meeting folks we ate a lot of BBQ…

SXSW was incredible; with so many performances over a few days, not to mention meetings and information sessions, it’s an intense and disorientating experience, so we were glad to hit Memphis for St. Patricks weekend. And the shows there were great. Unburdened of thoughts of who might be in the audience, we were embraced by an enthusiastic local crowd. Memphis is amazing, enjoying the faded glamour and proud southern life was a real experience. Plus we got a glimpse into Elvis’s life, visiting Graceland and Sun Studios, and later trying our hand at monster burger consumption!

The next week was spent in snowy Toronto, at CMW. As well as the gigs we visited Second City comedy club, the Gallery of Ontario and kensington Market. We’d a cool week, discovering new places and bands, and revisiting the places we’d seen when we were here together for the first time in 2005.

Moscow was the final leg of our tour, and the most exciting.

In -10 degrees we visited Red Square, the Kremlin, the oldest cafe in town with the best cakes and sampled vodka with outrageous alcohol content. And the Moscovites were so much warmer than the outside temperatures. We had a brilliant show in the enormous centre for Arts and also made our first Russian TV appearance. A big thank you to all who made us feel so at home. We can’t wait to come back!

We’ve spent the last few weeks putting the finishing touches to the recordings of new acoustic re-workings of tracks from Little Sparks, as well as a few of our favourites, (for an acoustic album) and we’ve (gently) begun the process of writing new material. The scary exciting process. We’re getting as much done as we can, before a really busy month of March…

Starting with the Meteor Choice Music Awards in Dublin on the 7th, (where, as well as being up for Album of the Year, now ‘Care For’ has also been nominated for Song of the Year!) we depart the next morning for a three week tour in the US and Canada, taking in gigs in New York, Austin, Texas and Memphis, then ending with our first ever show in Moscow, Russia. All the gigs and tickets are listed in our Shows section. Gonna. be. amazing.

Being nominated for best Irish album at the Erics and the Meteor Choice was a really nice way to cap off a great year with the album and so we decided to celebrate by making the title track available for free download right here. Simply subscribe to our mailing list at the top of the page… and it’s yours!

We’ve also made a video for the track Little Sparks using footage compiled by ourselves and Delo fans along the way. Edited and Produced by Eamonn Gray; Its got a “day in the life” feel to it…. All shot in Spain, check it out.

2012 was an incredible year for us – and we can only say thank you for all your support.

Today we found out we’ve been nominated for the Choice Music Prize for Ireland’s best album of 2012, and we couldn’t be happier! >>choicemusicprize.com/ Thank you to the Judges, it’s really capped off a great year. It’s our second nomination and we’re delighted to be heading back to Vicar St.

The release of Little Sparks was very exciting, from the reaction and reviews of the album, to all the creative things that we did – and continue to do – around the songs.
Throughout 2012; we released a creative magazine to accompany our first single (which you can see below), we opened pop-up shops around Ireland to release our album, and we released a Podcast (https://soundcloud.com/delorentos) to detail the workings of the making of the album.

We also had a day of positivity online, asking you to tell us what you Care for!

Plus we started our Acoustic project, and we continue to put up acoustic reworkings of our songs…

As well as this we had incredible shows all over Ireland, Spain and Europe, including amazing gigs at Benicassim, Electric Picnic, The ReeperBahn fest, SOS fest and in a huge Spanish Bullring. Thank you for coming and good to meet you.

The great news is that “Little Sparks” has been nominated in lots of end of year polls (thank you!) and, as well as the Choice, is up for two “Eric” awards from Entertainment.ie; for best band and best album. (we’re playing the Eric awards next Wednesday 16th in Dublin- visit that link for tickets!).

This coming year looks like being a busy one, we’re already confirmed for two of the world’s best music festivals: SXSW in Texas and CMW in Toronto, Which we’ll be visiting in mid-March. There’s a massive red circle around those dates…

We’ll be playing some shows in Berlin, Hamburg, and Amsterdam with the mighty Bell X1, at the end of January, and are already booked for a slew of great Spanish Festivals in the Summer!

The DELO-BUS has its headlights trained on the South West of Ireland, for the first week of the < Bullet in a Gun Tour > and while not quite dogs in heat, we’re very excited about it. New songs, old songs, new arrangements and instruments… It’s going to be good.

Beginning in Dolans, Limerick on Friday night and The Pavilion in Cork on Saturday, we’ll be hitting up a town near you over the next four weeks. And with so many people returning home from abroad for Christmas, it’s looking like the Vicar Street show on Dec 21st, is going to be the mother of all Christmas parties. We warmed up for the tour on Tuesday night with a secret acoustic show for Hotpress and it turned out to be good fun, a very intimate 50/60 people in the centre of Dublin – Jameson, Cod & Chips and dimmed lights. You can get pictures > HERE <.

The MC of that show, and advocate of popular music, Stuart Clarke, joined us on our recent Bullring gig in Murcia and our interview with him is published in the Christmas edition of the mag. Our name’s even on the cover! Plus a handsome picture of one of the gangster dudes.

Aside from the big news for the tour, we’ve been announced for the prestigious SXSW Festival in Texas, this is something that we’ve always loved since we did it first five years ago, and is always an incredible few days of live music.

Finally, we’re delighted to say that our “Little Sparks Podcast” is available to download *free* from Sound Cloud. We’ve been trying to do interesting and creative things around each release from this album, so this is another idea we thought you’d like!

Speaking of memorable occasions, we recently played in the stunning setting of an historic bull ring in Murcia where Hotpress magazine came to check us out. Plus we just joined our friends, Villagers in Bitterzoet, Amsterdam, a great night and show! Our gig was described by one blog as “Surprisingly good”, Which is a complement I think?! We’re doing promo and sessions and stuff in the Netherlands to mark the release of the album over here ahead of, hopefully, a tour in the new year. Sweet eh? Amsterdam in particular is an exception city. If you’re a good boy, of course.

Another special little moment recently was performing on Philip King’s “South Wind Blows Live” for RTE 1′s Big Music Week. Here’s a little video of a song from our set. We were nervous before we went on, it felt very, um,  mature… I think we did well though, it felt special anyway.

Finally, we also added to our Little Sparks Acoustic Sessions, with this video of The Stream, made with AerTv. It has a random slightly surreal element if you haven’t seen it…  (we don’t know this man by the way, and it wasn’t set up…)

Electric Picnic was one of the highlights of what’s turning into an amazing year with Little Sparks. Thank you to everyone who made up an incredible audience!

Somehow in our exuberance, the giant polystyrene “delorentos” ended up in the crowd. By all accounts they cropped up in some funny places around the festival. Here’s a few pics we’ve been sent! (we don’t know who these people are but they seem very nice)

Playing festivals is something we really love, especially since we’ve got the opportunity to do it in countries outside Ireland, like the US, Canada and Europe. There’s nothing like playing to a home crowd, and Electric Picnic is special – not just because it’s Irish, but if we weren’t playing we’d be in the crowd anyway. There are some lovely write-ups on the show in the papers and on blogs, but we’re not gonna post them here (you can find them if you search), Sometimes all you need is to remember how good it felt.

This weekend we’re headed to SouthPop,  Isla Christina, Heulva and Klutxa Kultura, San Sebastian in Spain and we’re very excited about returning. Our Spanish experience so far this year has been nothing short of amazing, and we’re delighted to be asked back. With trips to Germany and Holland coming up too, we’re racking up the air-miles.

We’ll give a full update next week, but we wanted you to hear the good news first.
